Welcome to Canaries …
We are in Puerto de la Cruz, two of the most interesting and rich visit from a historical and cultural point of view ,
the atmosphere of this town, is undoubtedly the most refined and quiet
compared to the chaotic life that characterizes the south of the island .
I chose this goal because it resembles a journey of my twenties
Milanese love lived on the island in August of nearly 40 years ago …
we are still great friends today ,
he is my brother and I’m his sister, and we ‘ll always be there for each other … so my journey tonight is dedicated to you !
We begin our tour ,
the main buildings of historical interest are located near the beautiful Plaza Charco ,
is the living room of the town , because every walk starts and ends here.

The Church of San Francisco
presents itself as a single structure , but in fact includes the church of San Juan Bautista,
built between 1599 and 1608.

The Castillo de San Felipe,
is located just outside the historic center
it was built for defensive purposes nel1599 to fend off numerous attacks by pirates that plagued Puerto de la Cruz.
Job Abaco ,
is the typical and traditional Canarian house with patio furniture,
you can visit the interior and all day sipping a cocktail , you can attend a folklore show .
Lake Martianez
is the natural pool of seawater largest in the world!
It was designed by famous architect Cesar Manrique.
It ‘ s a very special place that allows you to bathe protected by the immense force of the Atlantic Ocean .
I remember the high waves and while i was bathing in the calm waters of Lake Martianez .
Torreon de Ventoux is a very well preserved building , a tower in the past kept an eye on the activities of the harbor!
Casa Iriarte is one of the most emblematic buildings in Puerto de la Cruz,
declared of Cultural Interest by the Spanish Government ,
Iriarte was the abode of the lineage of illustrious personages of the bourgeoisie of the place.
Today it is privately owned , is home to a craft store and local products ,
where you can buy the calados (typical ornamental inlay work of tissue ) ,
on the upper floors there is a naval museum .
Let’s taste some local specialties …
The cuisine of the Canary Islands , it is simple and not elaborate, in many preparations we find the Gofio ,
a dark flour is used as an ingredient in soups fish in dishes based on vegetables but also in the preparation of pastries and bread.
Another element widely used is the Mojo is a sauce made with garlic , vinegar, salt and herbs,
you can choose between the Mojo Picon , in which you add the pepper and cumin,
Mojo Green, with the addition of parsley and coriander , Mojo Rojo with the addition of chilli ,
these sauces are usually served along with Papas Arrugadas , delicious potatoes cooked with the skin in sea water .
Tasted now Puchero canario ,
a very tasty soup consisting of vegetables and meat, mainly beans, sweet potatoes , corn , cabbage and bubangos ( remember the zucchini) .
The fish is so fresh and so obviously we can not enjoy the Salpicon de pescado a delicious salad of seafood and vegetables

Quesadillas are similar to mini cheesecake, really delicious !
The Huevos Mole , is another typical dessert made with egg yolks beaten with syrup and cinnamon
Bienmesabe cream with almonds and honey
And … finally … the Vilana cake made with eggs, sugar and potatoes.
Canary Adios ! It was great and exciting to go back to my twenties …
The memories come also here on my couch , my hot espresso is waiting for me …
